The difference between Cr12mov die steel and SKD11 die steel

Hitachi SKD11 is a steel imported from Japan, the trade name is SLD die steel, and the latest improved version is called SLD-MAGIC die steel. This type of steel produced by Datong Steel Plant in Japan is DC11 die steel. Whether it is Datong or Hitachi, they are made in Japan. Made of standard steel.

This steel is an air-cooled hardening cold work die steel widely used in the world. It is smelted by electric furnace and redissolved by electroslag. It has high purity, better toughness, uniform structure, good high temperature strength, toughness and high temperature fatigue resistance. , can withstand sudden temperature changes.

SKD11 die steel is imported from Japan and is honorably produced by Hitachi Metals, Japan. Its trade name is SLD die steel, and its latest improved version is called SLD-MAGIC die steel.

Japan’s Datong Steel Plant also produces this steel, and the trade name is DC11 die steel. Whether it is Datong or Hitachi, they are all made according to Japanese steel standards.

Major steel mills in China also produce it. This type of die steel produced in China is called Cr12MoV die steel, which is the standard grade in China.

How to use SKD11 die steel and DC11 and Cr12MoV die steel:

★Used in quenched + tempered state.

★Used in the state of quenching + cold treatment + tempering (suitable for high precision and dimensional stability requirements).

★Used in the state of quenching + tempering + nitriding (suitable for high surface hardness requirements).

★Cryogenic treatment In order to obtain the highest hardness and dimensional stability, the mold is cryogenically cooled to -70 to -80 °C immediately after quenching, kept for 3-4 hours, and then tempered. The hardness of the cryogenically treated tool or mold is higher than that of conventional heat treatment. High 1-3HRC. For parts with complex shapes and large dimensional changes, there is a risk of cracking by cryogenic treatment.

★Nitriding treatment After nitriding treatment of the mold or workpiece, a hardened structure with high hardness and certain corrosion resistance is formed on the surface.

★In the nitriding treatment at 525℃, the surface hardness of the workpiece is about 1250HV, and the effect of nitriding time on the infiltration layer is shown in the table below. Nitriding time (hours) 20 30 60 Nitriding layer depth mm 0.25 0.30 0.35

★ Soft nitriding treatment at 570℃, the surface hardness of the workpiece is about 950HV. Usually soft nitriding treatment for 2 hours, the depth of the hardened layer can reach 10-20um. Grinding the die blank or working in a low temperature tempering state, grinding is prone to grinding cracking. In order to prevent the occurrence of cracks, a small grinding feed should be used for multiple grindings, and good water cooling conditions should be added at the same time.

★When wire cutting is used to process molds with complex shapes or large sizes, when the final line is processed by wire cutting, cracking is usually encountered. In order to prevent cracking, it is recommended to use gas quenching and high temperature tempering to reduce heat treatment stress, or to pre-process the mold base.
