Local time on September 8, Sennar City in Sennar State in southeastern Sudan suffered a large-scale shelling, affecting many residential areas. One of the markets was hit by multiple shells, causing a large number of casualties. According to statistics from the Sudanese non-governmental organization “Sudan Doctors Network”, the shelling killed 21 civilians and injured more than 70 others. The organization accused the Sudanese Rapid Support Force of launching the attack, and the Rapid Support Force has not yet responded.

On April 15, 2023, an armed conflict broke out between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces in the capital Khartoum, which then spread to other areas. Since June this year, the two sides have been fighting for control of Sennar State.
