【Global Times Comprehensive Report】According to the New York Times on August 31, Paris Mayor Hidalgo said that the giant Olympic rings installed on the Eiffel Tower “will become a permanent fixture on this landmark building.” According to reports, Hidalgo said in an interview with Le France Ouest: “I have obtained the consent of the International Olympic Committee to leave the Olympic rings on the tower.” She said that combining the Eiffel Tower, a French landmark, with the Olympic rings is a “beautiful idea” and that “the two symbols should be permanently combined.” The Olympic rings are composed of five interlaced blue, red, yellow, black and green rings, representing different continents on the earth, and are an important symbol of the Olympics. According to reports, the Olympic rings were installed on the Eiffel Tower in early June. They are 29 meters wide and 13 meters high. They are made of recyclable steel materials and require four cranes and about 30 people to lift them to a height suitable for viewing. Hidalgo said that the five rings that will eventually remain on the tower will be replicas because the originals are too heavy and very dangerous in windy weather. Therefore, the five Olympic rings that will appear on the Eiffel Tower in the future will remain the same size, but will be lighter. Currently, the Paris municipal government is still discussing the relevant details with the International Olympic Committee.
