Serbia and France signed a number of agreements in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, on August 29, local time, covering areas such as civilian nuclear energy, agriculture, and infrastructure construction. The two countries also signed an agreement on the same day for Serbia to purchase 12 French Rafale fighter jets.
French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in Serbia on the 29th, starting a two-day state visit. After holding talks with Serbian President Vucic, Macron and Vucic witnessed the signing of more than ten agreements between the two governments and companies.
Vucic said at a subsequent press conference that the signing of a letter of intent on Serbia’s development of civilian nuclear energy is of great significance, and nuclear power is crucial to ensuring Serbia’s future electricity needs, especially in the context of Serbia’s plan to develop electric vehicles.
Vucic said that the two sides also signed an agreement on the same day for Serbia to purchase 12 French Rafale fighter jets, with a total price of 2.7 billion euros. This agreement marks “the first time that the Serbian army is equipped with Western-made fighter jets.” Macron said that the signing of these agreements reflects France’s support for Serbia’s integration into Europe through strengthening economic, industrial and political ties.
