On August 19, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) announced an expansion of the product list subject to Section 232 tariffs under the Trade Expansion Act for imported steel and aluminum products. The Commerce Department added 407 steel and aluminum derivative products to the list, with affected products facing a 50% tariff on their steel or aluminum components.

The newly added products include:

Automotive parts such as exhaust system components, electromagnetic steel sheets for electric vehicles, bus parts, and air conditioning components.

Other affected categories include rail vehicles, home appliances, and motorcycles, among others.

The U.S. initially imposed a 25% tariff on imported steel and aluminum in March 2025 under an executive order by former President Donald Trump. In June 2025, based on a Section 232 investigation report assessing the impact of steel and aluminum imports, President Trump further raised the tariff rate to 50%.
