The Feast of the Assumption of Mary is celebrated on August 15th every year.
In many Catholic countries, the Feast of the Assumption of Mary is a national public holiday, including Belgium, Cameroon, France, Italy, Poland and Spain.
“Assumption” is called “Assomption” in French. According to Catholic doctrine, it means that the body and soul of the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus, ascended to heaven together.
Although the “Assumption of Mary” has been a folk festival since the sixth century AD, it was not until 1950 in the last century that the Pope of Rome officially confirmed the creed of the Assumption of Mary through the “Constitution apostolique” and designated August 15 as the “Feast of the Assumption of Mary”.
