Since the beginning of this year, the sales of Chinese electric vehicles in Egypt have increased significantly. According to official Egyptian data, in the first quarter, the number of registered electric vehicles in Egypt exceeded 1,419, almost one-third of the total number in the past three years, most of which were produced in China.
Paula Munir has been driving fuel-powered cars for many years. Not long ago, he bought a BYD Song L sports utility vehicle, and he was full of praise for it. “My car can travel more than 600 kilometers on a single charge. Chinese electric cars are doing great in terms of technology and battery quality!” Munir told reporters that Chinese electric car brands such as BYD, Geely, Zeekr, and Weilai are becoming more and more popular among Egyptians. Under his recommendation, some friends also bought Chinese electric cars.
People in the Egyptian automotive industry generally believe that Chinese electric vehicles have a significant impact on the development of the world’s electric vehicle industry, and cooperation with China in electric vehicle manufacturing will help Egypt implement its electric vehicle industry localization strategy. Reporters learned that Egypt’s GV Investment Company and China’s FAW Group reached a cooperation agreement in the first half of this year, and plans to start producing FAW’s affordable electric vehicles in Egypt in the first quarter of 2025. GV Investment Company plans to localize 65% of vehicle parts in the next three to five years and export products to the Middle East, Africa, Europe and Latin America.
