On May 29, Toyota Motor Corporation highlighted its aggressive market strategy with a comprehensive electrified vehicle lineup—including plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), hybrids, and battery-electric vehicles (EVs)—aiming to capture broader consumer demand. By offering options across all powertrain systems, Toyota believes it is uniquely positioned to win market favor as the auto industry shifts toward cleaner, more efficient technologies.

Currently, Toyota and Lexus brands provide 32 electrified models in the U.S., the most among all automakers, according to the company. In Q1 2025, Toyota sold 112,608 electrified vehicles in the U.S., accounting for nearly 50% of its total sales. The company projects significant growth in U.S. demand for PHEVs in coming years.

In a recent CNBC interview, David Christ, Vice President of Toyota Motor North America, emphasized plans to expand PHEV offerings to boost sales. Toyota aims to increase PHEV sales to 20% of its total U.S. sales by 2030, up from just 2.4% today. To enhance PHEV appeal, Christ noted Toyota is “continuously improving the all-electric driving range” of these vehicles.

With hybrid demand already strong, Toyota is betting on PHEVs as a bridge to full electrification, leveraging its multi-pathway strategy to meet diverse consumer needs while scaling EV ambitions.
