TA18 titanium alloy is an advanced α-type titanium alloy, composed of titanium, aluminum and vanadium. It was developed for cold workable pipe applications and has excellent cold workability and welding properties. At room temperature and high temperature, the strength of TA18 titanium alloy is 20%-50% higher than that of pure titanium. Its maximum operating temperature is approximately 315°C. TA18 titanium alloy is suitable for manufacturing aircraft and engine hydraulic and fuel piping systems, and has been used in various military and civilian aircraft and aerospace applications. In addition, TA18 titanium alloy can also be rolled into foil and strip. The former is mostly used in aircraft honeycomb structures.

TA18 titanium alloy heat treatment system
The following is the heat treatment system of TA18 titanium alloy:
Annealing: The annealing treatment of TA18 titanium alloy pipes and plates needs to be carried out in a vacuum furnace. The absolute pressure in the furnace should not be higher than 0.09Pa, the heating temperature should be in the range of 650-790℃, the furnace temperature fluctuation range should be ±15℃, the holding time should be 30-120 minutes, and then furnace cooling treatment should be performed.
Stress relief annealing: The stress relief annealing treatment of TA18 titanium alloy needs to be carried out in accordance with the provisions of GJB 3763-1999 “Titanium and Titanium Alloy Heat Treatment Specifications”. The treatment temperature is 370-600°C and the treatment time is 15-240 minutes. After treatment, air cooling or furnace cooling can be carried out.
Smelting and casting process of TA18 titanium alloy
TA18 titanium alloy is a high-strength, high-corrosion-resistant titanium alloy commonly used in aerospace, shipbuilding, chemical industry and other fields. The following is the smelting and casting process of TA18 titanium alloy:
Smelting process: TA18 titanium alloy should be smelted in a vacuum consumable electrode arc furnace more than twice. In the first smelting, the raw titanium block is added to the electric arc furnace and heated to above the melting point to melt it. The molten titanium alloy is then poured into a casting mold to create a preliminary cast billet. In the second melting, the preliminary cast slab is heated again above the melting point to melt it. This can remove gas and impurities in the preliminary cast billet and improve the purity and uniformity of TA18 titanium alloy.
Casting process: The casting process of TA18 titanium alloy includes sand casting, pneumatic mold casting, vacuum pneumatic mold casting, etc. Among them, vacuum pneumatic mold casting is a relatively advanced casting process that can produce high-precision and high-quality TA18 titanium alloy castings.
