Pure titanium Grade 1 is a common engineering titanium alloy, also known as pure titanium or industrial pure titanium. It is one of the most common grades of pure titanium and offers excellent corrosion resistance, high strength, low density and good processability.

Main features of pure titanium Grade 1

The main characteristics of pure titanium Grade 1 (TA1) are as follows:

Low strength, but good plasticity: Pure titanium Grade 1 has relatively low strength, but has good plasticity and is easy to be processed into various shapes.

Good processing performance: Pure titanium Grade 1 is suitable for stamping, welding and cuttable processing and other processes, and has good processing performance.

Good corrosion resistance: Pure titanium Grade 1 has good corrosion resistance in the atmosphere, seawater, wet chlorine and oxidizing, neutral and weakly reducing media.

Better oxidation resistance than most austenitic stainless steels: Pure titanium Grade 1 has better oxidation resistance than most austenitic stainless steels.

Poor heat resistance: Pure titanium Grade 1 has relatively poor heat resistance and its applicable temperature is not too high.

The pure titanium commonly used in industry is TA2 (Grade 2) because of its moderate corrosion resistance and comprehensive mechanical properties. The grades of pure titanium differ according to the impurity content. An increase in impurity content will lead to an increase in mechanical strength and hardness, but a corresponding decrease in plasticity and toughness.

Processing of Pure Titanium Grade 1

Industrial pure titanium should generally be smelted twice under vacuum (at least once in a vacuum consumable electrode arc furnace), and its castings are usually produced in a vacuum shell furnace. Industrial pure titanium can withstand both hot and cold working. Since titanium easily absorbs oxygen, hydrogen and nitrogen when heated, the plasticity is reduced and the performance is deteriorated.

Therefore, when heating, care must be taken to keep the atmosphere in the furnace neutral or weakly oxidizing. Try to avoid using a reducing atmosphere, and hydrogen heating is not allowed. Forging, extrusion, rolling and drawing can be carried out on common equipment, and the temperature range of the hot processing is 800~900℃. When performing cold working, when the cold working rate reaches a certain value (such as 30% to 60%), intermediate annealing should be performed.

Application fields of pure titanium Grade 1

Pure titanium Grade 1 is indeed widely used in applications where the operating temperature is below 360 degrees, the force is not large, but high plasticity is required. Here are some common application areas:

Aerospace: Pure titanium Grade 1 is often used in aircraft frames, skins and engine accessories. Due to its good corrosion resistance and high plasticity, it can meet the requirements of lightweight, high strength and corrosion resistance in the aerospace field.

Ships: Pure titanium Grade 1 is widely used in the field of ships to manufacture pipes, valves, pumps and other parts that are resistant to seawater corrosion. Pure titanium Grade 1 is also often used for components in seawater desalination systems to cope with seawater corrosion.

Chemical industry: Pure titanium Grade 1 is used in the chemical industry to manufacture heat exchangers, pump bodies, distillation towers, coolers, agitators, tees, impellers, fasteners, ion pumps, compressor valves and other parts. Its corrosion resistance and high plasticity enable it to adapt to complex chemical environments.

Diesel engine: Pure titanium Grade 1 is commonly used in piston, connecting rod, leaf spring and other parts of diesel engine. Its high plasticity and corrosion resistance enable it to withstand high temperatures, high pressures and chemical media.

The application scope of pure titanium Grade 1 also includes medical equipment, petrochemical industry, electronic equipment and other fields. In general, pure titanium Grade 1 is widely used in scenarios that require corrosion resistance and high plasticity due to its good corrosion resistance, high plasticity and processability.
