Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated during a speech at the Federation Council (the upper house of Russia’s parliament) that Russia-China relations are a vital factor for global strategic stability. Reports noted that Lavrov emphasized the special significance of the Russia-China comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era, as well as the trust-based dialogue between the top leaders of both countries. He added that the current Russia-China relationship serves as an important element for global strategic stability and the stability of a multipolar world.
Lavrov further mentioned that earlier this year, Chinese leaders attended events in Russia commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s Great Patriotic War victory, while Russian leaders traveled to China for ceremonies marking the 80th anniversary of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War victory. These joint commemorations held “profound symbolic significance.”
Previously, as reported by RIA Novosti, regarding Russia-China relations, Russian President Vladimir Putin remarked on November 18 that the comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era between the two nations has reached an unprecedented high level. This relationship is based on equality, mutual benefit, and mutual support on issues concerning each other’s core interests, while not targeting any third party. He also noted that cultural and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries continue to thrive.
