On December 30, local time, the Russian Ministry of Agriculture announced that Russia’s domestic rice harvest in 2024 will exceed 1.2 million tons, an increase of 17% over the same period last year, setting a historical record.

According to reports, as of now, Russia’s rice planting area is about 207,000 hectares, of which two-thirds of the planting area is located in the Krasnodar Territory, with a total output of about 829,000 tons. Other major producing areas are the Republic of Dagestan, Rostov Oblast, the Chechen Republic and the Primorsky Territory.

According to the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, by 2030, Russia’s rice production will reach 2 million tons. This output will meet Russia’s domestic demand and create good export potential. Lobach, chairman of the Russian Rice Union Council, said that the record rice production will keep the price of rice in Russia at the 2022 level. In the next five years, Russia plans to increase rice cultivation by 275,000 hectares, mainly in Astrakhan Oblast and Primorsky Krai.
