The nominal composition of TA24 titanium alloy is Ti-3Al-2Mo-2Zr. TA24 alloy is a near-α titanium alloy with medium strength, good plastic toughness and weldability.
TA24 alloy is a medium-strength, high-temperature, corrosion-resistant and hydrogen embrittlement-resistant Ti-Al-Zr-Mo titanium alloy. TA24 alloy has better comprehensive properties than TA5 in terms of strength, plastic toughness, corrosion resistance, and processing performance. It is an important material for power plant equipment and ship welded structural parts.

Physical properties of TA24 titanium alloy
The typical mechanical properties of plates, bars, forgings, etc. are: Rm>730 MPa, Rp0.2>630 MPa, A>13%, Z>25%, KIC≥80 MPa·m1/2, ak≥580 kJ/ m2, KISCC≥75 MPa·m1/2.
TA24 alloy is resistant to seawater corrosion
TA24 alloy shows excellent corrosion resistance in seawater environment! It can effectively resist seawater immersion corrosion, crevice corrosion and dynamic seawater (flow rate 3 m/s) corrosion. The corrosion rate was recorded as 0 mm/a, indicating very slow corrosion. Moreover, when forming a galvanic couple with hull steel, its corrosion effect is 1.33, indicating that TA24 alloy has cathodic protection capabilities in this case.
Welding performance of TA24 titanium alloy
The welding performance of TA24 titanium alloy is excellent! It has a welding coefficient higher than 0.9, which means that during the welding process, the alloy is able to achieve very good welding quality and reliability. This is a very beneficial feature since welding is an essential step in many engineering applications. So you can use TA24 titanium alloy for welding with confidence that it can provide high-quality welds.
The difference between TA24 titanium alloy and TA5 titanium alloy
TA24 titanium alloy has the following differences and advantages compared with TA5 titanium alloy:
Higher strength: TA24 alloy is 50 MPa stronger than TA5 alloy, resulting in better performance and durability when subjected to load.
Better impact toughness and fracture toughness: the impact toughness of TA24 alloy is 1.4 times that of TA5, and the fracture toughness is 1.2 times that of TA5. This means that TA24 alloy has a higher resistance to crack growth and the ability to prevent fracture when subjected to impact or stress.
Higher KISCC value: The KISCC value of TA24 alloy is 2 times that of TA5. KISCC is a stress corrosion cracking susceptibility index, indicating the resistance of the alloy in a corrosive environment. A high KISCC value means that TA24 alloy is more corrosion-resistant and more suitable for applications in corrosive environments.
Better cold and hot workability: TA24 alloy has excellent cold and hot workability, making it easier to form and process, and is suitable for a variety of manufacturing processes and application needs.
Low sensitivity to impurities: Compared with TA5 alloy, TA24 alloy is less sensitive to impurities. This means that TA24 alloy is more tolerant in terms of material purity and uniformity, and is more suitable for some applications that require higher impurity content. All in all, TA24 titanium alloy has filled the gap in domestic 730 MPa marine titanium alloys and has reached or exceeded the international advanced level in terms of comprehensive performance, strength, toughness, corrosion resistance and processability. It has been widely used in fields such as plates, bars, pipes, rings, forging cakes, wires, castings, wide and thick plates and large ring forgings.
