Berlin (d.de) – Germany supports Peru’s transport transformation in big cities such as Lima and Trujillo. The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development announced this as one of the results of the climate policy dialogue between the two countries to achieve their climate goals. This is the first high-level meeting since Germany and Peru agreed on strategic cooperation on climate and environmental protection in November 2022. Germany has pledged up to 426 million euros in support to Peru.
Nils Ann, State Secretary of the Ministry of Development, said that Germany and Peru faced similar problems with their climate targets in the transport sector: “We are therefore supporting Peruvian cities to establish bicycle lanes and electric bus rapid transit networks.” A central theme of the dialogue was also ” Learn from each other and learn from each other.”
Peru is one of the countries in Latin America most affected by climate change. Rising temperatures are causing glaciers in the Andes to melt, with serious consequences for coastal ecosystems and water supplies.
