TC17 titanium alloy is a commonly used titanium alloy whose composition includes elements such as titanium, aluminum, tin, zirconium, manganese and chromium. It is an α-β type two-phase titanium alloy with the advantages of high strength, good fracture toughness and hardenability, and a wide forging temperature range. These characteristics make TC17 titanium alloy widely used in aerospace, shipbuilding, chemical industry and other fields.

TC17 titanium alloy heat treatment system
The heat treatment system of TC17 titanium alloy includes solution treatment, aging and stress relief annealing.
Solution treatment is to heat the material to 800℃±10℃ or 840℃±10℃, keep the temperature for 4 hours or 1 hour, and then quickly water quench or air cool +800℃±10℃ for 4 hours, suitable for β forging or α+ Beta forged material. This process eliminates supersaturated solid solutions in the alloy and improves its plasticity and toughness.
Aging is to heat the material to a selected aging temperature in the range of 585-685°C. The typical aging system is 630°C, 8 hours, and then air-cooled. This process can precipitate the alpha phase in the alloy, improving its strength and hardness.
Stress relief annealing is to heat at a temperature of 480-650°C not higher than the aging temperature, hold for 1-4 hours, and then air-cool or furnace-cool. A typical stress relief annealing regime is 550°C, 4 hours, air cooling. This process removes residual stress in the material, improving its tensile strength and toughness.
TC17 Titanium Alloy Smelting and Casting Process
The smelting and casting process of TC17 titanium alloy usually includes the following steps:
Raw material preparation: Select high-purity titanium, aluminum, iron, carbon and other raw materials and mix them in a certain proportion.
Smelting: Put the raw materials into a vacuum consumable electrode arc furnace for smelting. TC17 titanium alloy usually requires three meltings to ensure the purity and uniformity of the alloy.
Casting: Casting is done by pouring molten alloy into a mold. TC17 titanium alloy usually adopts vacuum air pressure casting or vacuum isothermal casting to ensure the quality and performance of the casting.
Heat treatment: Heat treatment is performed on the cast alloy to eliminate residual stress and improve the properties of the material.
TC17 titanium alloy corrosion resistance
TC17 titanium alloy has excellent resistance to general corrosion, mainly due to the formation of a dense oxide film on its surface, which can effectively prevent further corrosion. In addition, TC17 titanium alloy also has good seawater corrosion resistance, so it is widely used in the field of marine engineering.
However, TC17 titanium alloy still has a certain sensitivity to hot salt stress corrosion. This is because in high temperature and high pressure environments, the oxide film on the alloy surface will be destroyed, leading to further corrosion. Therefore, this limiting factor needs to be considered when using parts made of TC17 titanium alloy for use in hot salt stress corrosion environments.
In order to improve the thermal salt stress corrosion resistance of TC17 titanium alloy, the surface of the part can be anodized. Anodizing treatment can form a dense oxide film on the surface of the alloy, thereby improving its corrosion resistance. In addition, other surface treatment methods, such as electroplating, spraying, etc., can be used to improve the corrosion resistance of TC17 titanium alloy.
