On May 2nd, local time, Uber Technologies and Momenta announced a strategic agreement to introduce autonomous vehicles into Uber’s platform in international markets outside the U.S. and China. According to the official press release, the first deployment of this partnership is scheduled for early 2026 in Europe, with vehicles equipped with onboard safety operators. By combining Uber’s ride-hailing network with Momenta’s autonomous driving technology, the two companies aim to accelerate and deliver safe, scalable, and efficient Robotaxi services.

IT Home noted that Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi mentioned that Elon Musk is unwilling to integrate Tesla’s planned autonomous taxis into shared mobility platforms, implying that Uber will become a competitor to Tesla in the future. In recent years, Uber executives have increasingly emphasized the company’s autonomous driving strategy during earnings calls and other public appearances. Since 2023, Uber has partnered with over a dozen automakers and invested in multiple autonomous driving technology companies.
